Brief 5 Days Rwanda Primates Safari Itinerary:
- Day 1: Drive from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
- Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk in Nyungwe National Park.
- Day 3: Leave Nyungwe for Volcanoes National Park.
- Day 4: Gorilla trekking and cultural tour in Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village.
- Day 5: Golden monkey tracking and return Kigali.
Detailed 5 Days Rwanda Primates Tour Plan:
Day 1: Drive from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Your day will start with tasty cup of Rwanda tea or coffee at your respective and later, you will embark on a 4 to 6 hours’ drive to Nyungwe National Park in the southern part of the country.
This will depend on speed of your driver and condition of the car as well as number of stopovers. Most importantly, you will make a stopover at Nyanza which gives you a chance to explore the Kings palace or at Huye for you to pay a visit to ethnographic museum.
You will have lunch and later, continue to Nyungwe National Park.

- Luxury: Nyungwe Forest Lodge
- Mid range: Nyungwe Top View Lodge
- Basic: Gisakura Guesthouse
Journey: 6 hours.
Meal plan: Lunch and Dinner.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk in Nyungwe National Park.
You will be expected at Uwinka trailhead by 7:00am for briefing on the set safety measures to be followed while you are on chimpanzee tracking.
After, you will be accompanied by an experienced park ranger guide on your primate adventure to look out for chimpanzees which may take you 3 to 4 hours which also covers the one hour of magical encounter.
However, you will also have astonishing encounters at other primate species including the red colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons, Angolan monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys as well as variety of forest bird dwellers.
Later, you will get back to the lodge where you will have lunch then in the afternoon, you will sum up the day with canopy walk which will reward you with sights at distinct bird species, primates and not to forget the breathtaking the rainforest.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
You will begin your on 5 to 7 hours road trip to Volcanoes National Park which is in the northern province of Rwanda after breakfast.
Accommodation;
- Luxury: Mount Gorilla View Lodge/Bisate Lodge
- Midrange: Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge/Da Vinci Lodge
- Budget: Garden Palace Hotel/Kinigi Guesthouse.
Travel time: 5-7 hours.
Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Tour in Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village.
Since this is your long awaited day, you will be expected to get up as early as possible to prepare and have breakfast. By 7:00am, you will be expected to join other clients for briefing on the set gorilla trekking guidelines.
It is today that you will be assigned to one gorilla group to trek in a group of 8 visitors and Volcanoes National Park comprises of habituated families such as Susa A, Ugenda, Bwenge, Kwitonda, Hirwa, Sabyinyo, Umubano, Group 13 and Amahoro.
In most cases, this primate adventure covers 2-6 hours with only an hour given to you to strike your imaginations with these dramatic creatures. However, the length of your trek may depend on the number of factors including your speed of hiking, location of mountain gorillas and nature of habitat.

After photography and magical encounter with these massive creatures, you will get back to the lodge to enjoy lunch then in the afternoon; you will pay a visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to interact with the locals.
Accommodation Option: Same Lodge as the previous night.
Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking to Kigali.
You will enjoy breakfast at your respective lodge and after, you will gather at Kinigi park offices for briefing on the rules and regulations for golden monkey trekking.
This primate adventure gives you an hour to be with golden monkeys and after, you will return ready to embark on return road trip to Kigali where you will pay a visit to Kigali/Gisozi genocide site.
Later, you will connect to a hotel or area of stay.
