This 10-Day Rwanda Safari presents you an opportunity to explore the diverse landscapes, culture and the country’s leading top destinations that include Nyungwe Forest National Park, Kigali city, Volcanoes National Park, Lake Kivu, Akagera National Park and Iby’iwacu cultural village that will equip you with so much about the Rwandan culture.
It’s no secret that Rwanda is one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in the world. With its most beautiful clean Kigali city, lush rain forests and rolling mountain ranges, there’s something for everyone from young ones to adults.
Our 10 Days Rwanda Safari starts from Kigali – taking you through the hidden gems such as the Kigali genocide memorial, the craft shops, local markets, the museums and much more. Proceed to Nyungwe forest National Park the best place to see chimpanzees and other 12 other primates found within this park.
From here, you will continue to Lake Kivu that is shared by Rwanda and Democratic republic of Congo. There’s so much to do while here and this does include visiting the islands found on the lake, boat cruise, birding and so much.
You will then proceed to Volcanoes National Park that is situated in the north western part of Rwanda and best place you can see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Seeing man’s closest relative right in their natural habitat as they roam freely is the most rewarding, breathtaking and memorable experience.
The park has about 12 habituated gorilla families that you can visit on your trip. While here, you will as well enjoy the beautiful scenic views of the five volcanoes found in the park such as Mount Karisimbi, Mount Muhavura, Mount Bisoke, Mount Gahinga and Mout Sabyinyo.
Apart from gorillas, there other wildlife species that you can spot in this park that include the golden monkeys, forest buffalo, elephants, birds and much more.
Other popular spots you can check out within the park include the Dian Fossey grave (an American primatologist who played a crucial role in the protection and conservation of mountain gorillas but was killed by unknown people in the park), the Ellen DeGeneres campus that was established to continue the research and study about mountain gorillas.
This 10 Days Rwanda Safari will then take you to Akagera National Park – Rwanda’s only savannah national park where you will spot the big 5 animals (rhinos, lions, leopards, buffaloes and elephants) and other wildlife species like hyenas, antelopes, bird species and much more as they roam in the national park.
While here, you will as well go on a boat cruise on Lake Ihema which does introduce you to various species of birds, Nile crocodile, hippos and much more. Your trip will then come to an end after your return in Kigali.

Detailed 10 Days Rwanda Safari Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival and Kigali City Tour.
Upon arrival in Rwanda, you will be met by our guide who will brief you about this trip and then take you on a Kigali city trip to discover so much about this beautiful city.
Some of the places you will check out while in Kigali include the Kigali genocide memorial center, art galleries, craft centers, the local markets and much more.
Head back to your hotel to relax, have dinner and then rest.

Day 2: Travel to Nyungwe, En-route Visit Ethnographic Museum.
Early morning breakfast and embark on a trip to the south western part of Rwanda where Nyungwe Forest National Park (one of the largest tropical forests in Africa) is situated.
En-route to Nyungwe, make a stopover at the ethnographic museum in Huye which is also known as the national museum of Rwanda. While here, you will learn so much about the Rwanda culture plus so much more.
We will then transfer to your lodge in Nyungwe Forest National Park to relax and spend the rest of your evening enjoying the scenic of the forest.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk.
Wake up excited because this is the day you are to get your first primate experience on this 10 days Rwanda safari.
After an early morning breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters where you will be briefed on the guidelines and rules you need to follow during and close to chimpanzees in the forest. After the briefed, you will be assigned a chimpanzee community you are to visit.
A ranger and a guide will then lead you into the forest to search for chimpanzees. Upon spotting them, you are allowed to observe and take as many photos as possible of these endangered species as they play, feed, hop on tree brunches and much more.
Once your time elapses, the ranger and a guide will led back to the park headquarters where our driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel for lunch and relaxation.
After lunch, our guide will take you on a canopy walk still in Nyungwe Forest National Park. This will present you with scenic views of the forest right from above and some species such as monkeys, birds and much more.
Return to your lodge for dinner and rest

Day 4: Travel to Lake Kivu.
After your breakfast, our driver will transfer you to Lake Kivu – the country’s largest fresh water lake situated on the border between Democratic republic of Congo and Rwanda.
While on the lake, enjoy the beautiful scenic views of the rolling hills that surround the lake and the islands on the lake as you relax right on the shores.
Proceed to your lodge to get lunch and refreshments before you return to Lake Kivu in the afternoon for a boat cruise that takes you to the islands, see many bird species and much more.
Return to your lodge after the boat cruise on Lake Kivu for dinner and rest.

Day 5: Sport Fishing, Visit Plantations and then Transfer to Volcanoes with Stop over at the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village.
Have an early morning breakfast and our driver/guide will transfer you to Lake Kivu where you can catch and release fish before you proceed to Nyamirundi Island to check out some of the coffee plantations.
Here, you will learn how coffee is planted, harvested, packed and made ready for human consumption. It’s an experience like no other.
Return to the mainland where our driver will pick you and take you to your lodge for lunch and checking out before you embark on a trip to Volcanoes National Park situated in the north western part of Rwanda.
En-route to Volcanoes National Park, you will stopover at the Iby’iwacu cultural village where you will get the opportunity to learn so much about the culture of Rwanda and much more. Proceed to Volcanoes National Park direct to your hotel for dinner and rest.

Day 6: Golden Monkey Trekking and then Dian Fossey Hike.
After your early morning breakfast, our driver will take you to the park headquarters where you will be briefed on the guidelines and rules to follow during golden monkey tracking.
There two golden monkey troops within Volcanoes National Park with the best and more popular being the Sabyinyo troop that has individuals that range from 80 – 100.
Once briefing is complete, you will be lead onto a 2 hour hike in the park to search for golden monkeys. Upon spotting them, you are allowed to spend some time while taking photos of these as they hop on trees and much.
Head back to the park headquarters where you will be met by our driver who will take you back to your hotel for lunch. After lunch, you will return to the park to hike to Dian Fossey’s grave.
The American primatologist is hailed for her conservation efforts of mountain gorillas and was killed in 1985 by unknown people. Fossey was buried within the park near her favorite gorilla digit. After the hike, return to your lodge for dinner and resting.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking.
One of the highlights of your 10 Days Rwanda Safari is to meet man’s closest relative- mountain gorillas right in their natural habitat.
Your day seven of the trip will start with an early morning breakfast and right after that, our driver/guide will take you to the park headquarters where you will be briefed on what you should expect and the rules you need to follow as well.
Like we mentioned earlier, there 12 habituated gorilla families within the park and you will assigned a gorilla group depending on your level of fitness. After that, an armed ranger and a guide will lead you into the dense rainforest to search for the location of mountain gorillas.
Unlike golden monkey trekking, gorilla trekking requires some level of fitness as it involves going through steep slopes in the think rainforest. This takes between 3hrs to 8 hours depending on the location of mountain gorillas.
Upon spotting mountain gorillas, you are given time of up to 1 hour to observe these endangered species as they play, feed and roam within their habitat. It’s during this time that you are allowed to take as many photos as you want of these massive gentle creatures.
Once the time given elapses, you are led back to the park headquarters where our guide will pick you and transfer you back to your hotel for lunch and afternoon relaxation at the hotel.

Day 8: Ellen DeGeneres Center and Transfer to Akagera National Park.
Have your early morning breakfast, check out and our guide/driver will transfer you Akagera National Park with a stopover at Ellen DeGeneres center in Kiningi.
Also known as the Ellen DeGeneres campus of the Dian Fossey gorilla fund was established to continue the conservation and scientific research about these species with whom we share with almost 98% of our DNA. While here, you will informed the conservation efforts going on to protect the gorillas and much more.
Proceed to Akagera National Park with an en-route lunch at one of the best hotels. Arrive at your hotel in Akagera National Park for dinner, relaxation and then rest.

Day 9: Game Drive and Boat Cruise.
After your early morning breakfast, our driver will take you on a game drive in Akagera National Park to see a number of wildlife species that include the big 5 animals (elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards and rhinos) and other wildlife species like hyenas, topi, giraffes, zebras, water-buck, oribis, duiker, cape eland, several species of birds and much more.
You will then head back to your lodge for lunch and refreshments. Our driver will then take you to Lake Ihema for a boat cruise that introduces to various species of water birds like the papyrus gonolek, herons, sand pipers, shoebill stock etc and other wildlife species like crocodiles, hippos and much more other species.
After your boat cruise, head back to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 10: Nature Walk or Sport Fishing in Akagera then Transfer to Kigali.
After your early morning breakfast, head to Lake Shakani for sport fishing. There various fish species that can be caught here but the most common caught fish here is Tilapia.
After this rewarding excursion, you will head back to your lodge for lunch and then transfer back to Kigali either direct to the airport to catch your next flight back home or your next destination. We will as well drop you at the lodge of your choice within the city.
This will mark the end of your 10 days Rwanda safaris.
